Living By Faith

“Faith is being sure of what we hope for
and certain of what we do not see.” 1

Imagine yourself being in a forest. You are all alone. You could see nothing but complete darkness. Wild animals could be out there, waiting to devour someone. A quicksand could be just a step ahead. You have bruises all over your body caused by your countless stumbling and by the thorn-bushes along the way. You are uncertain of what is going to happen next. Oh, it’s a plight nobody would want to undergo but it is the very condition everyone of us are into.

“I am in the midst of lions
I lie among ravenous beasts
Men whose teeth are spears and arrows
whose tongues are sharp swords.” 2

You are already crying. You really do not know where you’re heading to. Then from nowhere, you hear a voice saying,

“Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged.
Be strong and courageous.” 3
“ I will be wih you.” 4

Step by step, He guides you to stable grounds, to safer paths.

“This is the way. Walk in it.” 5

Suddenly, as you look ahead, you perceive a light glowing in the darkness. As you continue to walk, the light becomes more visible and brighter. That light is Jesus.

“His face was like the sun, shining in all it’s brilliance.” 6

Then you press on with your journey, with peace in your mind, with a heart full of hope; knowing that what lies ahead is a blessing, things that the Lord has prepared for you eversince.

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard
No mind has conceived
what the Lord has prepared
for those who love him.” 7

Brothers, that is living by faith – trusting that the Lord is in control of everything, that He knows what’s best for us, that He is true to His promises.

“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” 8

Having that knowledge, you can make your night into morning, your wailing into singing.

“Weeping may remain for a night
but rejoicing comes in the morning” 9

Your fears disappear. Instead, it is replaced with excitement, realizing that…

“God had planned something better for (you).” 10

Like Abraham and all those who have been mentioned in the Hall of Faith, let’s just trust and obey… and wait.

“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary;
they will walk and not faint.”11
