We were able to buy a Monopoly board game last Christmas. I asked my kids to shell-out some amount from their “pamasko” so we could buy it. Mahal kasi!
Even before, we have been dreaming to own a Monopoly. When I was a kid, I used to watch my Ate and her barkada play it in our neighborhood. I know how it is played, but I never get to play it for long hours because it was not ours. My wife said that she only sees it in the movies. My two daughters say that they only read about it in their books.
Finally, we were able to have one. Yehey!
We play the game almost every night. We even skip watching our favorite programs on TV. But my wife and I make sure that the kids finish first their homeworks before we indulge in it. It is fun! We make noises everytime we get excited like when bidding for a property, or if one get to pass a property that has a hotel. Talo!
My bunso gets to practice his Math by paying, buying, and giving change using the play money. His mood changes though, depending on whether he is winning or loosing. He gets very active whenever he wins. But when he realizes that he is already loosing, he says that he seems to have a headache, that he feels sleepy. The next minute, you’ll find him already “asleep”. Then we tease him, and then he’ll cry. Waah!
I asked my kids if Monopoly is better that computer games. They were unanimous in saying, “Yes!” I also agree. The game may have been considered obsolete by some (it was copyrighted in 1935) but we still enjoy it. We just discovered how enjoyable the game is and we will continue playing it.
How about you? Have you played Monopoly lately? Laro tayo…
